It is estimated that college students spend an estimated $474 million per year on music sales alone. With full-time students boasting a whopping $60 billion in buying power per year.
Just by the sheer numbers you can understand why college campuses have traditionally been hot beds for breaking music and the main focus for marketers looking to capitalize on campus culture.
There has traditionally been two paths for artists to take when building a college fan base. Both paths provide optionality — One path requires more of a deliberate approach when it comes to building relationships with organizations such as the NACA and APCA. I will touch on this later in the EXTRA section of this article.
